Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch Fanfiction: Vampire Melody - 13. An Unrequited Friendship
Lucia sighed as she opened the door to her classroom. She kept her head down as she thought:
I don’t really have anything against that group of mages, but Onii-chan, says to stay away from them so I’ll have to. It would’ve been easier to be friends with them though. Since they are magic users but, oh well!
She avoided looking around the classroom as she made her way to her seat. She already felt the said group watching her. She shrugged the feeling off and sat down. She turned to the girl seated next to her, who was sharpening some pencils and had a small smile on her pale face. The girl had long, straight, black hair and small yet striking blue eyes. Overall, Lucia thought she looked very pretty.
Lucia quickly realized she was staring and cleared her throat. The girl turned her head gracefully in the direction of the sudden noise. She smiled gently at Lucia. Lucia smiled back
Uwa! How elegant and feminine! Okay! Let’s try and make some normal human friends! It hasn’t been too long since the term started so there aren’t many groups made yet. Let’s do this!
“Lucia Nanami.” The girl completed.
Lucia looked at her, surprised. But then she let out a nervous laugh. This caused the black haired girl to giggle.
“You’re the new girl who transferred here. I was here on your first day.” She smiled once more.
“O-oh yeah!”Urgh of course she would know my name! Stupid Lucia! You just introduced yourself a few days ago!
“A-and your name?” Lucia tried to say without sounding rude.
“My name is Emiko Hachiro.”
Wow what a suiting name. Lucia thought.
It was then Lucia noticed how soft and light Emiko’s voice was. Lucia extended out her hand. Emiko took it in hers and they shook hands, signaling their acknowledgement of each other.
“Hopefully we can be good friends.” Emiko trilled. Lucia nodded her head enthusiastically. She totally forgot about the six pairs of eyes watching her.
“Oooooh! Missed your chance!” Kaito mocked Rina. She glared at him in utter hatred abd retorted, “We can just talk to her later!” Hanon let out a small sigh.
“But it is kinda true.” Hanon shrugged. Rina turned to face her.
Kaito jeered at Rina with a creepy smirk. Rina returned it with another glare.
Hanon ignored them and continued, “I was kind of hoping she wouldn’t make any friends until we went up to her since then it would’ve been easier to become friends that way. Oh well. I’m always up for a good challenge.”
“Are you sure this is right?”
All eyes turned to Nagisa. He looked down and continued, ” I mean , it’s like your being forced to be friends with her. Or like, you want to force her. It’s just not actual friendship.”
Rina shook her head, “I genuinely want to get to know her better. She doesn’t seem like a bad person. From what I can see so far, it kind of looks like her and her brother have both been through a lot, so if I can, I would like to see if I can do anything to help her. Hanon?” Rina turned her head towards the blue haired girl.
“I just love making friends!” Hanon replied cheerily.
“You mean shopping buddies?” Kaito coughed.
Hanon smacked his arm as he and Nagisa snickered. Gaito sighed as Masahiro and Rina looked at Lucia.
“What do you think is up?” Masahiro asked softly.
Rina continued to look at the blonde girl talking animatedly to a classmate she knew, Emiko. She had met Emiko before and even had a few conversations with her but never really got so close as to be called friends, so Rina didn’t know Emiko that well.
“I just hope it’s nothing too serious.”
Masahiro nodded as he turned his gaze to the gray eyed girl sitting before him. He opened his mouth to say something but quickly closed it as their homeroom teacher walked in.
“So, how do you like it here?”
Eric ignored the question and nonchalantly rested his face in his left hand as he concentrated on the book in his right.
“Hey! Come on man! Don’t ignore me! We’re buddies! Right?”
Eric slowly turned his head to the annoying source of sound and bluntly whispered, “No,” and went back to his book.
It was currently self study in Eric’s class and his energetic neighbour was not having his silence.
“Come on! Why not?” The boy drawled.
Eric closed his eyes and thought, ‘What a pain. Are all humans like this?! I was thinking having a few human friends would be good to get to know the area better, plus it would help in disguising us and keeping alibis. But definitely not with this idiot.’
The young teen turned his attention back to his book and let out a short sigh of relief when he heard the teacher scold his neighbour for talking and not studying. The boy in question just let out a laugh, gave two thumbs up to his teacher and said, “O-kay Miss Shishido! Will try harder next time not to talk. By the way, rocking those new shoes!” He winked and clicked his tongue, causing the class to laugh at his actions. The teacher gave him a small smile and shook her head. She signaled the class to get back to their work.
A youth with light brown eyes and a carefree smile. Energetic and upbeat. In other words, ‘happy-go-lucky’. He was the class joker and unexpectedly, was a position holder in the whole school. Known as a prodigy by many, he loved mysteries. Most people pictured him as a detective when he grew up, but would be surprised when he told them what he really wanted to become. He was difficult not to like and was almost like an open book. Almost. Quite famous throughout the whole school. To sum up, not so much on Eric’s good side.
Maybe it was because that was Eric’s first impression of Kichirou. Or maybe it was because Kichirou kept forgetting his textbooks, forcing Eric to share with him, or maybe it was because Kichirou was always surrounded by people. Or, because on Eric’s first day, Kichirou spilled his fruit milk on him. Fruit milk. The number one kind of milk Eric hated.
Those few incidents, may have led to Eric disliking Kichirou in all aspects. He could not say he hated the guy, since he did not know him that well. Eric was quite a reasonable person. But he was this close to wanting to sew Kichirou’s mouth shut and throw him in a pool of needles.
The only thing and reason why Eric would even reply to Kichirou, was his honey coloured hair. It reminded Eric of his sister’s eyes.
But, other than that, nope.
As Eric turned a page in his book, a folded piece of paper flopped onto his desk. He glanced to his right and saw Kichirou beaming and giving him two thumbs up. Eric rolled his eyes and glanced out the window to his left. Two classes were currently having a PE class together. He scanned the students for his sister but was able to conclude that her class was not down there. He turned back to the folded piece of paper on his desk and slowly unfolded it.
‘Want to go to the arcade after school?’ Eric read the note in his head.
He ruthlessly tore the paper apart and threw it over Kichirou like confetti. Then he went back to his book as Kichirou held back the tears and sniffled at the scraps of paper around him.
As Lucia stood up to go to the washroom, Emiko stood up with her. They looked at each other and Emiko smiled.
Lucia replied with a “Yep.” And they walked out of the classroom together.
“So, how long have you been here for?” Emiko asked.
“Oh, um I guess it’s been about a month.” Lucia replied. Emiko nodded and asked,
“Do you have any siblings?”
Lucia smiled in acknowledgement and said, ” An older brother. He’s in the high school division.”
“Oh, that’s cool.”
“What about you?”
Lucia glanced at Emiko to see with no surprise, that she was once more smiling.
She’s seems to be really happy all the time.
They washed their hands and made their way back to their classroom. They took their seats, and as Lucia took out her lunch, she glanced out of the window on her right. She sat in the second row, last seat so she was right next to the window, overlooking the courtyard that also had a pathway to the building opposite to them, that held the junior classes.
She saw her brother being dragged along the pathway by a honey haired boy. She giggled quitely as she saw her brother’s annoyed expression.
“So you only have one brother, right?” Emiko suddenly said, causing Lucia to turn away from the window.
“Hm? Oh y-yeah.” Lucia replied. Emiko had that same smile she always had on plastered to her face as Lucia smiled back at her.
She seems so nice. Lucia thought. She felt very comfortable around Emiko. Lucia couldn’t wait to tell Eric about her new found friend!
Eric, on the other hand, could not wait to get away from this unrequited friednship Kichirou came up with.
He glared at the back of Kichirou’s honey coloured hair as he pulled him along hallways to find this ‘awesome’ thing.
As Eric was being dragged through what seemed like the middle school division’s building, he spotted some girls sitting in a class with their seat pulled up to one table and they were talking as they ate their luck. Eric imagined the same happening to Lucia and let out a small giggle.
Kichirou turned back to look at what made the sound and was surprised to see Eric, grinning like an idiot.
“Woah. What happened to you?” He stopped walking and Eric bumped into his back. This snapped Eric out of his daze and he looked at Kichirou.
“What the heck were you thinking about?”
Eric glared at him.
“None of your business.” He spat. Kichirou beamed at the fact Eric responded to him and once again, grabbed his arm and started off towards the middle school cafeteria.
“Where are you even taking me?” Eric asked looking around.
“Tch.” Eric clicked his tongue at Kichirou’s one word answer.
Kichirou stopped and turned around. He grinned and began, “There is this incredibly tasty chocolate bread here. It’s also sold in our cafeteria, but the teachers buy it all out before lunch break rolls around. I hear they sell it in large quantities here so that’s why we’re here!”
“Won’t we get in trouble?”
“That’s why we have to work fast!” Kichirou stated.
Eric sighed and let out a, “whatever,” and they both entered the cafeteria.
“Oh! They’re here!”
Eric rubbed his head in annoyance as his arm was grabbed and he was dragged away for the nth time that day.
